At this years Comocrea textile design show, it was a chance for a selection of buyers and designers to view a variety of catwalk-reactive and trend led prints. There seemed to be a continuos theme of dark romantic colours, and highly decorative and historically influenced designs.
Woodland Ditsy
Woodland flora and fauna update the ditsy print with a dark romantic feel. Wild flowers, branches and leaves appear in earthy tones and cascade on jet-black grounds for an autumnal approach to the perennial favourite. The scale remains small; but rather than compact repeats seen in previous seasons, designers opt for more negative space between motifs.
Orange Blossom
Print studios showcase catwalk-reactive designs and are inspired by Gucci's striking floral print for A/W 16/17. A punchy orange ground overhauls English garden florals, offering an unexpected splash of vivid colour for the season. Stems and leaves accompany blooms in sparsely scattered repeats, creating a delicate design.
Tapestry Tales
Tapestry-inspired prints become increasingly realistic with added textile textures and an authentically aged palette of antique gold and brown. Highly ornate, these prints are packed with arabesques, roses and decorative borders, reflecting the continued focus on historic patterns. This authentic feel offers a refreshing take on the bohemian look for the premium market.
From this trade show we can see that bright high tech and geometric patterns are being replaced with old fashioned vintage style patterns for A/W 16/17.
